Victor Lifts the Wo-Cup Amid Brutal Month of Betting
The Wo-Cup (www.wo-cup.com), a unique betting game for those who either know nothing or think they know everything about football, has unveiled its winner of a holiday for four in South Africa.
700 investors spent the duration of the World Cup betting ruthlessly in a game that combined FIFA and GDP rankings to provide interesting handicaps for players. Many who claimed the top prizes employed aggressive techniques that would make Holland’s high-kicking midfielder, Nigel de Jong, cringe. Throughout the competition players staked nearly 55 million WocusTM, a synthetic currency, created and owned by WDX – though all players started the game with only 10,000. With some players punting over 800,000 Wocus in a single bet, this was never going to be a competition for the risk adverse.
Stepping up to claim the top prize is Oliver Viney who amassed a staggering 1,618,000 Wocus, lifting the Wo-Cup and the top prize of a holiday for four in South Africa, host of this year’s World Cup. Runners up received prizes including a bar of gold, complementary service subscriptions and cases of wine.
Steve McDowell, Editor in Chief of Interactive Investor, who devised the game, said: “Interest in the Wo-Cup has been fantastic. Blending economic power with football prowess made for some fascinating betting. But, just like the World Cup final, in the end it was skill and tenacity that saw off brutal aggressive opponents. The winner placed an incredible 58 bets throughout the competition displaying some shrewd tactics from which Capello could certainly learn a thing or two. So a big well done to Oliver Viney!”
Alex Slater,WDX’s Director of Sales, added:
“The game has been a huge success with great prizes put up from City Forex, FC Market Squawk and Futures Techs. Working with Interactive Investor we’re already looking forward to the next Wocus venture and plan to use a similar betting format for other competitions.”
At the beginning of the game each player was given an electronic wallet containing 10,000 WocusTM. Players could bet up to 20 per cent of their starting total on any one fixture – though after the group games the restriction was lifted. When the bet goes the right way, players won at evens. The player with most Wocus won the game and the top prize.
