The Wo-Cup (www.wo-cup.com), launched today, is a unique betting game for those who either know nothing or think they know everything about football. Players can test their skills for free in a bid to win a holiday for four in South Africa.

Each country in the World Cup has been given a handicap that combines its FIFA ranking and its GDP ranking according to the IMF. Players then simply place a free bet on who they think will win each game.

Steve McDowell, Editor in Chief of Interactive Investor, who devised the game, said: “The World Cup will generate a vast number of games and gizmos but this unique game adds an extra dimension to the usual tired banter about whether France is a better footballing nation than South Africa.

“We all know most investors and City workers like a punt. The Wo-Cup is designed to be easy to enter and fun to play and you don’t even need to know anything about football. Not only will you stand a chance to win this great prize but you may also learn something.”

Each player will be given an electronic wallet containing 10,000 WocusTM. The Wocu (or World Currency Unit) is a synthetic currency, created and owned by WDX Organisation Limited. Players can bet up to 20 per cent of their starting total on any one fixture. If the bet goes the right way, they will win at evens. So if you place 1000 Wocus on France to beat Greece and France wins by more than one goal you would win 1000 Wocu plus your stake back, so that's 2000 Wocus into your account. The player with most Wocus would get to take three others to South Africa.

“It is so good to partner with Interactive Investor”, said Michael King,WDX’s M.D. and creator of the World Currency Unit, the Wocu. “They have built an imaginative competition. When a goal goes in, now you will have to think more about the country who scored it. While the History of the World Cup feature is a must-read on the site.

“By combining FIFA and GDP rankings to engineer an alternative handicapping and applying it to the World Cup, Interactive Investor has really provided a novel and excellent way of evaluating your skills; skills in sport and economics. The WDX Organisation is pleased to have provided the prize for the winner, travel to sun-drenched South Africa”.
